Illusion of Choice

— inadvertent censorship

I started watching Babylon Berlin on Netflix a couple weeks ago when I was back in the US. I’ve traveled out of the country. When I got off the plane, I was excited to continue the show. Unfortunately, it’s not available in the country I’m in.

There are plenty of other movies so I watch those instead.

A handful of them were available back in the US, but I wouldn’t have watched them. Although I was unhappy at first, I’m glad the selection presents an opportunity to watch movies I wouldn’t have seen.

Could choice be a way to ‘censor’? There’s a limit to time spent watching movies. I would have never seen the movies I’ve seen, never enjoyed them, unless I had this different selection.
